Welcome to Colter Creek Outfitters!

You need to look no further to find some of the best elk hunting in the country!  Combine the superb hunting with our comfortable wilderness camp located in the Bitterroot National Forest near the Continental Divide on the Idaho/Montana border, and you will have the experience of a lifetime.  Experience the history of our great nation by hunting the same mountains Lewis & Clark and the rest of their expedition did.  Travel and hunt along creeks named after expedition members John Colter and John Shields.  View the expansive and rugged terrain, and you can appreciate even more the rigors our forefathers experienced in their quest to reach the Pacific.

Fortunately for you, you won't have to live off of roots and food handouts from the Nez Perce Indians like Lewis & Clark did.  For one, the elk are no longer plains animals, but now use this mountainous terrain as their primary habitat.  If only Lewis & Clark had been so fortunate!  For another, Colter Creek Outfitters has taken all of the hard work out of your hands - we take care of that for you.  Our camp is an easy ride on horseback from the trailhead.  In a short ride on our gentle stock, you can be in some of the area's prime elk hunting country and on your way to an experience of a lifetime.  Our experienced staff of cooks, guides, and wranglers are the best around.  It's our job to make a hunt with us easy and comfortable for you, so that you can concentrate on the hunting!

Elk use our surprisingly secluded hunting area almost year round, with local as well as migratory herds.  An ample supply of elk and low hunting pressure combine to make our 21 sq. mile permit area registered with the US. Forest Service a very productive location for our hunters, both in quantity of elk available, as well as quality.

So whether your quest is to take your first bull, to bag the trophy that's been eluding you, or just to experience the awesome country and the camaraderie around the campfire, Colter Creek Outfitters can help.
